About Me
I am a (very) mature student at Coventry University studying English and Creative Writing in my third and final year.
I am a self-published fiction author and a writer of many articles, fillers and letters, and have been published in magazines such as That's Life!, Readers Digest, and Coventry's local free magazine, Your Call, as well as The University's, own, in-house magazine, CovWords.
I left school in 1979 at the tender age of 16, and despite my love of writing, found myself unemployed at the height of a recession with little in the way of prospects. After a period of drifting between jobs, I found myself in an engineering environment where I was to stay for around 30 years, working for such prestigious companies as Rolls Royce (aerospace), Peugeot, LTC (London Taxi Company), and Aston Martin.
Osteoarthritis forced me off the factory floor and I began to explore other avenues of employment and had several years of van driving for local businesses before returning to my first love of writing.
It was a love I had largely abandoned in my quest to support a family, but in my desire to break new ground, decided to apply to Coventry University to explore ways to earn a living through my words. This was a brave move at 58 years of age, but I was ably supported by my wife Shelly, who had just completed a 3-year course at Coventry College in Early Years Childcare.
My long-term financial future is uncertain, but with support from The University's lecturers and Talent Team, I firmly believe that my future income will be writing-based, and I look forward to exploring the many ways that writing can employ me going forward.
